Venice Sunset

Brilliant is the one
Who sees more than what is there
Brilliant is the one
Who understands the things not said
It’s a Venice sunset
Anything can happen
Wings of gold descend
And claws of black reach out
“Never,” she says
“One day,” he amends
Her eyes grow wide
His lips twitch upward
Brilliant is the one
Who knows when to fight back
Brilliant is the one
Who knows when to give in
It’s a Venice sunset
Anything can happen
Wings wrap around soft curves
And claws of black caress
“I won’t,” she says.
“You will,” he amends.
There’s sad violence in her eyes
There’s only love in his
She’ll do what she has to
And he will do the same
She turns to run
He holds on tight
She’s determined, yes
But he is strong
Out comes the knife
She’d hid it well
His eyes now large
Her lips twitch upward
In slides the knife
Right through her trembling chest
Now he will never have her
And she will never have to deny him
Brilliant is the one
Who knows when to fight back
Brilliant is the one
Who knows when to give in
Neither claimed that brilliance
